Coverage

Ten markets across the United States and Canada

Builtie tracks live building permits, active projects and the people deciding who gets the work. Coverage depth is set by what each city publishes, so every market below is listed with its own numbers rather than one headline figure. Figures are the first half of 2026 (January to June).

Where Builtie started, and still the deepest data we hold. Every permit is matched to the builder, the design team and the trades already credited on the job, with decision-maker contacts on most active files. Low-rise infill across Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough sits alongside the downtown tower pipeline, so both a two-truck renovator and a commercial installer find work here.

Hamilton

Ontario

The GTA's overflow market and one of only two cities where every permit carries verified coordinates, so site-visit routing is accurate to the address. Heavy on residential additions, second suites and industrial retrofits along the bay. Volume is smaller than Toronto but competition for the work is thinner.

Vancouver

British Columbia

Fewer permits than any other market on this list, and the highest value per permit of the three Canadian cities. Densification and laneway work dominate the residential side; the rest is high-value mixed-use. Applicant coverage is complete, so you almost always know who filed the job.

Calgary

Alberta

The one market outside Toronto where the applicant of record is usually the homebuilder itself rather than a filing agent, which makes builder-side prospecting unusually direct. Strong new-build subdivision volume in the northeast and southeast quadrants.

New York City

New York

By far the largest feed we carry — more permits in a partial half-year than every Canadian market combined. Alterations and interior fit-outs make up most of the volume, which suits finishing trades. Permits started flowing into Builtie in late February 2026, so the count below covers four months, not six, and there is no like-for-like prior year yet.

Chicago

Illinois

Flat on permit count but up 74% on value year over year — a smaller number of much larger projects. Every permit states a cost and names an applicant, so this is the cleanest US feed for qualifying a job before you chase it.

Miami-Dade

Florida

The second-largest feed after New York and the busiest in the Southeast. Steady volume year over year, weighted toward residential renovation, pool and envelope work, plus a continuous condo pipeline along the coast.

Austin

Texas

High permit volume with a residential bias, and one of the fastest-moving markets for new single-family and ADU work. The city publishes rich work-type detail but almost no project values, so qualify jobs here by scope and applicant rather than by stated cost.

Austin states a construction cost on only 7% of permits, so we do not publish a dollar figure for this market. Permit volume, work type and applicant are all complete.

Nashville

Tennessee

A mid-size market with complete cost and applicant coverage on every permit. Steady residential new-build plus a consistent stream of hospitality and commercial fit-out work through the core.

Seattle

Washington

Value up 27% year over year on flat permit volume, so the average job is getting bigger. Multifamily and commercial alterations lead. The city rarely names the applicant on a permit, so decision makers here come from our own company and contact enrichment rather than the filing itself.

A note on depth: permit data quality is set by each municipality. Toronto carries the longest history and the richest project team detail. Some cities publish costs on nearly every permit, others rarely name the company that filed it. Where a number is missing above, it is missing at the source and we say so rather than estimating it.

Want the numbers for your own trade and city?

We will pull live sample projects in your area, show how many match what you install, and name the decision maker on each one. Fifteen minutes, no slides.
